In this post, I’d like to discuss your ideal heart rate for cardio exercise. Those of you who are familiar with my Books, Interactive Health and Wellness Seminars, and Personal Coaching programs know that “light” exercise is one of the cornerstones of my overall health philosophy.
In order to determine your ideal heart rate for cardio exercise, you first need to determine your “resting heart rate” (the number of times it beats for one minute while you are at rest). For children 10 years older and adults, the average resting heart rate is 60 to 80 beats per minute.
As you exercise, periodically press the tips of your first two fingers over the blood vessels in your wrist. Count your pulse for 10 seconds and multiply the number of beats to determine beats per minute. Your goal is to be between 50% and 80% of your maximum heart rate.
